 A recent breakthrough in delivering films has been film downloads. Most people associate this medium with the illegal downloads from file sharing sites. But did you know that aerospace giant Boeing developed technology that would deliver films to cinemas wirelessly on an as required basis?

The thinking behind this was that it would then make it more difficult for the film pirates to access copies of the films prior to their release. Although it was trialled successfully with various cinemas in California, its not thought that this method of distribution has been pursued. Instead several distribution deals have been reached with film distributors that will allow you to download films directly, and legally, to your PC, shortly after their release in cinemas.

So why bother with ordering your online dvd? Basically because most of us in the UK have pathetic download speeds. Whilst other nations can enjoy download speeds in excess of 40mbps the majority of the UK have difficulty in achieving real speeds of 2mbps. Even with the best broadband speeds on offer, it can still take ages for that film to download. However, it may still be worth trying.
